Anil Patel

Largest of all extant cats. Adult about 300cm in length; weight around 250kg. Coat colour ochre to orangish-yellow. White underside, inner limbs and cheeks. Black stripes all over body, used for identifying individuals. Stripes aid Tigers in ambush and camouflage. DIET Strict carnivore, mainly feeding on ungulates, cervids and livestock. DISTRIBUTION Patchy distribution in S, C and NE India, as well as the Terai Arc Landscape and Sunderbans. HABITAT Grassland, hill forests, and deciduous and evergreen forests.
