Parul Madhu

Crested, dark grey and white kingfisher, muchlarger than Pied. Strongly-barred dark grey andwhite upperparts; untidy, white-streaked blackcrest, erect when alarmed; white collar; whiteface with black malar stipe; orange neck patch onmale, black-speckled white on female. Underpartswhite with grey flank barring. Strongly barredblack-and-white tail. Powerful dark bill. Perches onoverhanging branches and rocks, diving from perchfor fish. Solitary and very loyal to favoured perches.
