Breeding male crimson and brown, spotted whiteon wings and flanks; white-tipped tail. Femalebrown above, spotted on wings; crimson rump;dull white throat; bufly-grey breast, yellow brownbelow. Non-breeding male similar to female, buthas greyer throat; upper breast distinctive. In smallflocks, often with other weavers; partial to tall grassand scrubs, preferably around well-watered areas;active and vibrant, rather confiding; huge numberscaptured for bird markets.
