Small bird, with cryptic sandy-brown plumage. White underparts with banded lower breast; distinct rufous neck patch; dark brown hindneck and crown; broad, cream eye-stripes joined to form V; straight, yellow bill with black tip; black tail with white base. Walks with upright stance. Thought to be extinct, it was rediscovered in 1986, after a lapse o f 86 years since the previous sighting.
